“Jeez, the Earthling get to you too?”
A guard already receiving treatment chuckled at another guard just hobbling into the infirmary. He let out a sigh of relief seeing a familiar face.
“Yeah the kid’s got spirit, that’s for sure. Offered to help me to the infirmary, but I was afraid he might break my ribs with his grip.” The man laughed sitting down in the infirmary bed next to his comrade. His comrade for his part, looked away a few beads of sweat dripping from his forehead as the nurse continued wrapping his chest. “Yeah that was a safe bet.”
The two men sat in silence in awe of the new recruit’s strength. Then one of them let out a laugh. “Crazy kid said he was doing a 100-Man Smash challenge!”
“Haha what a nut. I actually oversaw some of his basic training after he was picked up from Earth, kid was a natural fighter.”
The nurse shook her head at the men, finishing up with the first as she moved onto the new entrant.
“Of course he learned the intricacies of the Mythrosian Weapon from yours truly. Never had I seen someone take to their weapon so naturally. Of course he’s a little slow, so the weapons that took shape were always a little simple. However, I’d never seen someone merge the use of their weapons and surroundings so masterfully before. You see, he had an itch for combat that couldn’t easily be scratched. The boy was possessed by the spirit of combat as if he were spawned from Ares himself. Well except for he’s, you know.” The two men nodded their heads quietly.
“If that wasn’t enough, he’s not like any Earthling I’ve ever seen. Sure mix-races can lead to higher potential, but this is something else.” The man was interrupted first by the laughter of his compatriot, then by his compatriot’s cries.
“Haha! Oh, ow! Ow!” He clutched his side from the discomfort his chuckle had brought him. “So what, is this boy then a monster? Is that your claim?” His friend in the other bed shook his head.
“No, no nothing as droll as that. But if you ask me? There is something… inhuman about the boy. Something far more… primal.” His compatriot scoffed once more.
“What because he bested 2 officers in single combat in a day?” The guardsman scoffed. The original guardsman and the nurse shared a knowing look.
“Nurse would you be so kind as to explain to my friend his case #?” The man smiled coyly, leaning back into his bed.
“Why certainly Officer. You see the first 4 characters represent the date, the second 4 characters represent the incident in the order in which it was received on the respective date.”
The officer’s face grew pale for a moment. There was no way that nearly 100 officers had injured themselves before lunch. There hadn’t even been a skirmish reported over the comms. Just then, another injured man walked through the precipice.
“The nut job said Lord Hades is next.” The man said summarily before collapsing into a free bed. He seemed more exhausted than beat up, evident by his loud snores.
“That bastard did it…” The man said as he realized he had been the 99th combatant in Haru’s game.
