This is Dragon Ball Z for Christ sake... Er Berus sake. So let's get down to the nitty gritty. We are going to have some fighting, some super moves, maybe even a spirit bomb or two. So to give a brief run down of how things work round here, I figured it best to explain your Journey.
So this example is going to use two people with the starting Power Level of 300.
John is a Human, and only has one move to start.
Burst Knuckle - A concussive blast of aura shot from a punch. +15% PL.
Corey is a Namekian, and he has all his move's to start.
Drill Shot - An energy beam fired from a single pointed finger used for penetrating enemies and obstructions. +25% PL
Grenade - A ball thrown that explodes after making contact with anything. +15% PL
Flash Step - A movement technique that causing a very quick flash from his Aura combined with increased speed. +20% PL
Eye Beam - A simple quick fire eye laser. +10% PL
300 is both character's resting Power Level and is constantly being shown unless stated otherwise, so a scouter or someone with the ability to sense Power Levels will feel/see this.
The following explanation is just the basics, you are not limited to this and are allowed to do within your Power Level whatever is most fun for you.
Corey opens with an Eye Laser increasing his PL by 10% making it 330 at this point. There are many things to take into account. The PL of the eye laser is 330 not Corey's. Corey is still at 300 as this is a ki blast. Which means the eye laser is moving at a speed of 330, has a defense of 330, and has an attack of 330.
Looking at John he has many, many options. However we should compare his 300 to 330. It's not much faster, nor is it that much stronger, so in reality this move won't hurt very much and it could be dodged. A good rule of thumb is halves. If the blast was 50% faster and stronger than John he would be hard pressed to do anything except block. However for this particular move John is going to dodge to the left of the blast and charge forward aiming his one move Burst Knuckle for Corey. Which as we saw before will do an increase for the move of +15% instead of ten this time. Bringing the attacks speed and damage output to 345. Corey however uses a combination attack on his turn. Flash Step which makes it hard to see Corey dodge with his +20% Power Level increase, bringing him to 360.
To look at this move correctly, this was a direct increase to Corey's physical ability. Meaning his actual power level went up to 360 not some ki energy or blast. Literally making him that fast and tough.
Now as I said before this was a combo counter by Corey who now uses his ultimate attack. Drill Shot. As he is still under the influence of his flash step at this point he moves behind John while charging the move pointing his finger out at John he fire's. Giving him a +25% boost this time. So from 360 adding 25% brings Corey to 450. This is 50% more than John's 300 PL, however it takes a moment for Corey to charge the attack.
John however has no ability to sense Power Level's and can't find Corey instantly or know that Corey is behind him. His eye's however would adjust from the odd light from Corey's Aura allowing him to note his opponent being gone. As he finally finds Corey it's too late so he dodges best he can and instead of Corey's move hitting direct middle of John's back it hits his side causing a really nasty wound.
Corey has exerted himself tremendously in that move where John is badly injured. This fight is still anyone's game. This is just an example.
Personally I drop my Power Level's as my character takes damage. That's just me though. Do what you like and stay close to the example.
