A Hero from Another Time Appears! Cale Reigo enters the fray

Bionic implants that could alter the frequency of light to create Blutz waves? Was that even possible? Bulma had once build a Blutz Wave Generator to assist Vegeta in ascending to Super Saiyan 4, but the thing had taken up the better part of a room, and it wasn't because she lacked engineering skill. But sure enough, Ilago began transforming without needing a moon, or an artificial light source to reflect the sun's rays. This could be dangerous if the Saiyans of this time ever decided to start a galactic conquest; the only thing that saved many races was the preparatory time needed before a Saiyan team would arrive in time for the full moon. If they could transform whenever, wherever...
When Ilago mentioned Super Saiyan, however, Cale readied himself, eyes widening. Was this man capable of transforming? His power level wasn't high enough, not that Cale could tell, and it wouldn't have been possible for him to hide the extent of his abilities during the shift from a base form to Oozaru. However, his senses could already pick up on imperfections in Ilago's "ascension" and he began to see the cracks in the Saiyan scientist's theories. Ilago's aura had changed, but his fur never did. It was a sensation Cale was familiar with, being just on the cusp of a full ascension, of feeling the energy swirling in your body, but your body not being able to properly focus and hone it.
It might not look it compared to many of the other races in the galaxy, but Super Saiyan was as much a full body transformation as any other race's. The outwards physical appearance didn't change as drastically, but anyone who had gone through it could tell you what it was like. Your muscles were denser, your heart pumped faster, even your neurons sparked with an intensity that you could pick up on. When a Saiyan reached that level of power, its body had two options: rapidly adapt to such a vast increase in power, usually caused by extreme emotional trauma, and alter its physiology to compensate... or lose control of its own growing power and simply explode. Perhaps the reason the Saiyans dropped into a lesser false form was to vent that excess power before their bodies failed.
Only in this case, Ilago's hair had been permanently altered somewhere between False Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 4 as the two forms battled to control his body.
Cale couldn't exactly reveal how much he knew, though. "Well, in the stories," he began, walking closer to Ilago. "Super Saiyans were described as having golden, shining hair. But I don't recall your fur ever shifting shades towards that." Did he tell Ilago what the problem was, and give the Saiyan a proper impetus to grow stronger? Did this time's Saiyans need access to the knowledge of higher forms? "... but I can't quite say what the problem is. I've never personally used Oozaru myself. It might very well be that those implants don't cut it. Perhaps such an intrinsic transformation for our race requires it to be done as much naturally as possible." It wasn't entirely outside of the realm of reality, the Blutz Wave Generator had simply bombarded Vegeta with the requisit light frequencies. He'd still had to handle the rest himself. And it kept Cale from revealing with Ilago's true issues were.

Ilago stood up from his knee's breathing heavy. This Saiyan was far smarter than others... Maybe he had the right idea with the need for accuracy of completely natural. As well he had been assuming his hair wasn't changing due to the... Infection of this form he was trying to reach. Maybe he wasn't actually reaching the power of the Super Saiyan after all... More training was required.
Looking to Cale, Ilago would nod.
"It requires quite a lot more research, and since I'm the only one being tested on if something goes wrong it's not like we put this stuff in a bunch of elites."

At least Ilago was being smart about this. Testing using more subjects could bring faster results in most scientific projects, although with the general power level of the Saiyans in this time it still wouldn't give him what he wanted... not that Ilago was aware of just how deep that power defecit went. But if he was the only one who had these implants, it menat less Saiyan Elites going around from planet to planet like ticking time bombs.
Well... less like ticking time bombs.
"Perhaps it isn't a power that's worth developing," Cale began, crossing his arms. "Not if you have to force it. Your research is done with the best of intents, I can see that much. But a power like what you're looking for could be very dangerous if the wrong people use it. Not everyone will share your views on how it should be."

Ilago chuckled.
"Yeah I figured that when my hair changed and I went to prison when I lost control of it. I don't expect to discover it's secrets in my lifetime. Figuring out the steps, putting it away somewhere for a truly dire situation so future generations can do it safely... That is my goal. If I can figure it out, others will eventually figure it out as well, I doubt they will take such a safe route. If I can provide the safe route, I will."

A Saiyan who valued control. A rare trait in their race. Maybe even rare enough that Cale could stop this path logically, and prevent a future group of Saiyans misusing Ilago's research.
Perhaps... the Supreme Kai of Time might not begrudge him divulging a bit of information.
"Ilago," Cale said, clearing his throat. "I believe I may be able to help you see why this form you seek is out of reach. I haven't been entirely forthcoming with you, although I promise I'm not a criminal. But we'll need to go somewhere secluded. An abandoned planet, or a moon somewhere. No people. I am... privvy to knowledge that I can't risk others finding. If you're comfortable with that, and can point me in the right direction, we can be there and back before the preliminaries begin."

The red haired Saiyan tilted his head slightly at the reveal of hidden knowledge with a quizzical narrowing of his eyes. He figured something was off with the guy, but saying his research was out of reach and having proof? That was hard to believe.
"Very well. There is a planet near by with primitive creatures mostly water based beings. The land itself is barren and useless. Should be fine."
Ilago would reach into his coat and pull out a small device that showed him a space map on the screen. Turning around he would point at the sky.
"About a light year in that direction."

Cale nodded and put one hand on Ilago's shoulder, the other forming two fingers up against his forehead. "Don't breathe," he warned, letting his senses surge in the indicated direction until he locked onto the weak signatures of the lifeforms on the planet. With a slight tense, Cale shoved the two of them between dimensions, protected by a small bubble of ki that speared them not through, but between space, until they reappeared on a distinctly... wet planet, their boots on solid ground but in a few inches of water.
He looked around, sizing up the rest of the world's signatures, and let out a sigh of relief. Ilago had told him the truth, this world was barren save for the basest of beings.
"You're going to want to step back," he warned, taking a few steps back himself and setting into a horse stance.
"I'm not from here, Ilago," Cale continued, clenching his fists at his sides and hunching over. "I'm from an entirely different timeline, and even then I exist nearly three hundred years ago. I am the Commander of an organization known as the Time Patrol, and we oversee distortions in the streams of all timelines that exist within this universe, one of twelve. I have come here to help avoid a potential temporal threat, but I can show you why your research does not work."
He began to power up, his silver aura igniting around him. It was an unnecessary gesture, Cale had long ago mastered the first two transformations of Super Saiyan. But as his power shot leagues above even the maximum that Ilago had mentioned, his eyes began shifting to a light blue-green and he gave the red haired man a deadly look. "And if you reveal anything that I have said, or that I am about to show you, I will kill you."
Cale couldn't afford to leave Ilago thinking that he had any other option. And then he ascended, hair spiking up higher and becoming a brilliant golden hue, light suffusing the area around him, the water rippling at his feet. "This is the true form of a Super Saiyan. One who has mastered its use," he explained, relaxing slightly. "The reason you fail is that you lack both the power, and the emotional stress, required to unlock this form. It sleeps within all Saiyans, but it is far from the pinnacle of what our bodies can achieve."
He tensed up again, muscles bulging up as his body expanded, gaining mass rapidly. His aura became spikier, unfocused, and his breathing became ragged. "This... this i-is what happens when you overload Super Saiyan without focusing the increase in power," he went on, trying to keep the heightened emotions of the Ascended Saiyan state in check. Difficult even for him. "An artificial boost, but it causes a massive strain on the body. A temporary solution for those who have not yet learned."
Muscles began shrinking, and his aura became smoother again as his body returned to Super Saiyan before his power zoomed upwards once more. This time the effect was more dramatic, the water around him rising into the air, arcs of silver lighting suffusing into his golden aura. "But if you gain more power," Cale said, looking towards Ilago. "And you teach your body how to focus it, amplify it, coincide with further trauma at the right time, this is the result." Cale's aura blasted outwards, his hair standing up in stark spikes as his power jumped to yet another level. The ground beneath the water around them began to crack. "A Super Saiyan 2, a form that requires more power, and more control. Many where I come from have reached Super Saiyan, but few have come this far."
"However, there is more. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
Cale's scream echoed across the barren planet, and his power began to leap wildly. His body began pulsing with light, almost counting down to something as it quickened, and his voice became laden with something more than just sound waves: pure power. The water around him blasted away as his voice rose higher, clouds forming up ahead but shaping in a bowl centered far above him. The ground started to give way, water and debris shooting up into the air and swirling in a vicious wind that simultaneously ripped around, and from, Cale's straining form. The two of them were left in a forming bowl of dried, cracking rock as the water was blasted past even where Ilago stood. Veins popped out along his neck and forehead, the muscles on his arms bulging against the slim fitting armor.
The world froze. And then it exploded. Golden light shot in all directions, the clouds overhead crashing together and shooting downwards, releasing a single bolt of lightning drawn directly down towards Cale while tornadoes began to rip and pull at the watered surface of the planet in the distance, a storm forming on the planet's surface. But it was nothing compared to the biological storm of Cale's body as the lightning flash faded, and his hair extended down his back, eyebrows shifting forwards.
He stood back up with the transformation finishing, but didn't allow his power to calm. He needed to impress upon Ilago just how far away the Saiyans were from the intended goal. As he took a few steps forwards, the storm cracked in the distance and another bolt of lightning struck behind him, crystalizing the rocks where he'd stood. "And this is the final form," he said, crossing his arms. "Super Saiyan 3. Requiring even more power, but something more than emotional trauma. It requires understanding. Control. A reason to need this form, not simply the desire for it, or enough rage or sadness. This is the fullest potential of Super Saiyan without outside influence, and without corruption of its forms."
And with that, Cale released his power. His hair ebbed back up his spine, reshaping into his normal, choppy spikes. His aura faded, and his hair returned to black, closing blue eyes and reopening them as ebony. Cale let out a long breath, feeling the exhaustion from use of the third form overtake him and fought back against it. "The reason that you cannot find a new form of Oozaru is not because it doesn't exist," he explained, walking forwards again. "It's because the amount of power it requires, and the amount of control, all but precludes the mastery of the three main forms of Super Saiyan. Your methods are artificial, but your understanding of the mechanics are correct. A Saiyan of sufficient power," he made sure to accentuate that bit, "with full control over both Super Saiyan, its subsequent forms, and Oozaru can eventually combine Super Saiyan's amplification with Oozaru's transformation to great a Golden Oozaru. Stronger than the original form by a vast factor. In that state, A Saiyan can control and hone the immense power contained into their normal body, combining the Super Saiyan and Oozaru transformations to super impose the effects of both onto their base form."
Cale shook his head. "It isn't something I've ever attempted, but I've seen the result in two Saiyans from my home time. We called it Super Saiyan 4, but it was more of an Oozaru 2. And it's dangerous. Super Saiyan already impacts emotional stability, although those effects can be lessened with time. But that form... it turns a gentle man into a bloodthirsty warrior."
"The Saiyan race here is weak," he admitted sadly. "Where I'm from, our planet was destroyed by an Icejin named Frieza. Few of us were left alive. Fewer still survived the next decades. We had to become strong, and the stronger we became the more threats came for us. It isn't adversity that anyone in this timeline has ever faced and, as a result, you all have a long way to go."
He gave the scientist an appraising look, raising his brows slightly and letting it all sink in. "Are you certain that, even if the Saiyan race should ever reach the power necessary to complete the transformation you seek, that it should be used? With the Saiyans still alive in this world, how many of them would you trust with that power? One? Two? Ten? And how many more would seek it? So much as five of the wrong Saiyans learn to wield these abilities, and the galaxy would be gone with no one to stop them. The ramifications of your research go much deeper than you could have realized when you began," he finished, his tone serious.

The scientist waited and did as he was told,a flash of colors almost too fast for him to even percieve and they were there, standing on the planet he mentioned.
"What?"
Turning to Cale he was shocked at the technique he had just used. And when told he stepped back many steps. His explanation though... Not from here? The past in another universe, parallel multiverse? He was going to refute the claim when he saw the change in Cale's eyes. It stopped him from speaking and he just stared blankly as his energy exploded. He scrambled to grab his scouter and turn it on, but it wouldn't even register that he was here let alone give him a reading.
Even without Cale's explanation Ilago knew, this was the true form of the Super Saiyan. In this one instant everything Ilago and the others thought about the power of the race of Saiyans was a lie. This one instant of recognition as to how weak they truly were was almost debilitating. To make matters worse he went a step further, with bulk and tremendous strength. Not even stopping there he went a step further and he felt it rumble in his body, a vibration like none he had even heard legends about... Was this a God?
Thats when his hair began extending. The energy pushed Ilago and he had to push himself using the rage he had come to know and embrace to gain his False Super Saiyan form, the gold and red aura swirled off his form, his hair pushed up from the energy expansion and his eyes turned pure white with no iris or pupil. He could however only hold back the expansive energy as he was still pushed back. He wasn't even trying to fly he was just pushing against the force being pushed at him and his body maintained a height as the ground fell out from under him. Yet this was the full pinacle of the changes on the base form, to the Super Saiyans power.
He released his power, so Ilago did the same dropping to the ground with a thud landing on his feet. He subconsciously took a step back as the guy explained further that there was a step like the one he was searching for, but required all of that control... Finally however it all sank in, came to fruition, and realization within him... This was far too dangerous to trust the entirety of the Saiyan Race with, if they could even reach such depths of strength.
"All the research... Would be for naught that's true. The brutal nature of our people would over whelm them and it would lead to nothing but utter destruction..."
He spoke after some time, looking down. Raising his hands to look at the gloved features, before nodding and making fists.
"Maybe my research will hit some dead ends in the near future."

Cale watched as the realization dawned on Ilago's face. He felt more than a small pang of pity for the researcher, just trying to save his race from any potential threats. Cale couldn't help but wonder if he might do the same, had he grown up on Vegeta in his own time. His father had been a researcher, distrustful of the Icejin empire. Would he have followed the same path?
"That might be for the best, Ilago," he said softly, walking closer to the man and placing his hands on Ilago's shoulders. "... I've seen what this much power can do to a Saiyan's mind, especially when they don't expect it." A familiar pain rose in Cale's chest, but years of practice allowed him to swallow it down. Most of it. "My brother was one of the most honorable men I knew growing up. He raised me on another world with the help of a tribe that lived there after Vegeta was destroyed. He left on his own after attaining Super Saiyan, but while he traveled... my brother reached the second stage and it destroyed his mind. He reverted to the brutal ways of our ancestors in an instant. He raised an army and set out on a galactic conquest."
"I stopped him," Cale admitted after another moment. "He was one Saiyan, and far from the strongest I've ever seen, who didn't even know how far Super Saiyan could go. Ignorance, power, ego, and madness mixed, and he became a threat to the entire galaxy. Not an army of them. Not a strike force, not an Elite team. One Saiyan who didn't even know how much power he still could have used. I'm not from this place. Eventually I will leave, and this time will continue on its path. I shouldn't even be interfering with this, it wasn't what I was brought here for. But I'd rather not find that another Saiyan race met its doom. Or caused the doom of others."

The red haired Saiyan understood that train of thought and where he was coming from with that. It was still so much to swallow at this point of his meager understandings. He nodded however stuck in thought, processing everything. He knew it would be impossible for this level of power for everyone, but with just a few it would be incredible, and it was possible.
~I must get strong enough. Lord Dahveid, Prince Vegeta... They must be protected.~
"I understand."

Cale could communicate telepathically. He could sense beings in Other World if he tried. He could not, however, read minds... but he didn't need to in order to know what was going on in Ilago's head. The look on his face was the same as he'd seen on Vegeta's, on Sammi's, Krains, his children. His own.
For better or worse, Cale had just instilled the seed of growth in Ilago.
"Let's get back," he said, touching Ilago's shoulder and zapping them back to Namek. "Tournament's starting soon. Nothing helps a Saiyan think more than a good fight."
