So she had been reading. A lot. As well as borderline harassing a poor librarian. Harissa had found that most plants on Earth were not going to outright attack her. People even kept them in their house sometimes, for fun or something. However plants are also a large part of food production here. For fun some people even go to where a bunch of trees have purposely been planted and grown for bearing fruit. These places are called orchards. So in an effort to face her fears to an orchard she went.
She was trembling like a chihuahua however her face was hard and expressionless. So many trees. Carefully and as rigid as a machine Harissa went about trying to pick apples. Having gotten half a sack of apples she felt more confident. That was until some one called out to her.
"Ma'am? You'd have a full bag if you picked the tops too."
Harissa looked at him incredulously.
"YOU MEAN GO INTO THE LEAFY BITS?"
The man looked bewildered at her, had he said something wrong?
"Yes ma'am?"
She nervously did a little tappy dance while making various noises. In the leafy bits? Their evil bark clad hands? Was that not just a bit too far? Even if she was being the bravest she's ever been. However could she really say she's being the bravest she's ever been if she does not throw herself into the very fires of the underworld? Yes. Yes she could, and to go further beyond she could lie to this man and say she would jump through the rings of fire. If only not to look so weak.
"You are very right my good man! How could I have forgotten the apples on the leafy bits!? I will go to them! Now."
She turned and hurried away while thinking what she should do next to get her out of this situation. Harissa being so focused she didn't even hear the man call behind her.
"Ma'am? You didn't even take a ladder?"
Leaving the man far behind she stared down an apple far above her head. How dare it mock her!
"I should've known it was too good to be true. Nothing that photosynthesizes could actually be harmless. Vile flora!"
There she was having a standoff with, an apple. Her gaze got more pointed as she squinted thinking hard about the apple. Everything would be so much easier if it just came down! She began to huff and puff at the apple. Why in the world would people do this for fun? Apples, apples, apples! Why did she need a full bag? Glaring at the apple she pointed.
"I loath you."
Overwhelmed with her feelings about this apple she began to pace her eyes never leaving the apple. She hemmed, hawed, grumbled. All of her thoughts were consumed with this one apple, and how she desperately wanted it to come off that tree! At this point she had looked at this apple so long that it began to feel alien, more so than it already was to her. Her head began to throb but her focus never broke if anything is a weird way it helped her center her thoughts around the apple.
Just come to ME!
All at once an apple was flying at her and she had no time to react. CRACK! She had just been hit square in the forehead, by a rouge apple. Stunned she rubbed her head and looked at the culprit. What had just happened? Picking up the apple she matched it to the dent in her head then dropped it into her bag. She distinctly remembered being told these trees would not outright attack her.
With shifty eyes she looked around. Maybe, just maybe. She widened her stance and reached towards the sky.
"COME TO ME!"
A soft breeze tickled the trees and Harissa stood there. With absolutely nothing happening. Quickly recovering she crossed her arms. Complete dominion over trees was a bust. Squinting she held out one of her hands and focused on wanting the apple to be in her hand. Then like nothing she's ever seen the apple began to float lazily over to her. Before it could actually reach her hand she screamed, with all the air she had in her lungs she just screamed.
"I CAN MAKE APPLES FLOAT?!"
Running around circles in excitement she began making apples fly off the trees. Then as if on cue she smacked into the poor attendant from earlier who had been obtaining a ladder she could use. As they crashed to the ground Harissa yelped putting her hands over her head in an attempt to shield it from the ladder. All of her thoughts focusing on how she really didn't want the ladder to fall on her. The impact never came. Opening her eyes she immediately was over the moon.
"I CAN MAKE MORE THAN JUST APPLES FLOAT?!"
Cackling like a manic she got up and ran around moving almost anything she could with her new found power. The orchard had a record number of apples picked that day, and for a short while Harissa forgot all about her burning hatred for anything remotely plant related.
