The brief encounter with Rhona had done little to soothe his soul or to quiet the feelings buried deep in his chest. Her more upbeat attitude and energy was not enough to quell the screams and pain that he felt within. He felt like he was walking amongst the blind, and that only he could sense the darkness that loomed. It felt like he could listen to everyone's hearts and was overcome by the sound of their hearts breaking. This... money, this zenni didn't seem to have the power of cleansing one's soul. Quite the opposite.
He had spent time watching people after his encounter with Rhona. Rather than bringing joy it seemed to bring misery. Bringing people's hopes and dreams crashing down. Filling this world with filth and lies. People cheating, stealing, hurting and oppressing each other for this... currency. He couldn't fathom what kind of people would find this desirable.
Once more he found himself under a waterfall, trying to drown out the sound and feeling of pain that seemed to permeate this world. He tried to focus his senses on the truths, fundamental that they were. To quiet his mind beyond the distractions and the screams that he carried within his heart. Real or imagined. The hardness of the rock, it's texture, the freezing temperature of the water, the impact as it crashed around his shoulders. The stinging of the spray hitting his face. Even the life force, the energy of the fish in the river, the birds in the sky.
Truth was multifaceted. People could be honest and say they were happy even as they suffered. The water could be still on the surface but rushing underneath. One could care about a species not their own and offer aid earnestly, but choose to remain locked up under some vague notion of duty. There could be Gods watching and judging them all, claiming to be representing Balance, but destroying countless lives of those that are too weak to defend themselves as retribution for a few becoming strong.
The universe was made up of truths and lies, layered upon each other and as he projected his senses out. Calmed his breathing. And let his mind lose focus, allowed his mind's eye to blur the lines to see beyond what was projected he would learn to see the truth that would otherwise remain hidden.
