"That was a really long winded way of saying you have found your pride and ambition again, and yet decide to take giant steps backward."
He said rolling his eyes. He couldn't help but feel like she was floundering about with no real sense of purpose, despite all of her talk about pride and whatever. Who cared if there were better fighters than you? Get stronger or die trying. Just like what he was doing. His last suit was a huge failure and here he was actively collecting field data to make improvements for this suit. Going back to the Armada and taking a cushy academic position would be easy, but he wouldn't reach the heights that he craved doing that.
Needless to say, he disagreed with Berri when she seemed to imply that she believed Rhona was moving forward. To him it screamed of running away and jumping backward.

Berri said something that agreed with Rhona for the most part but something else did not. She thought maybe it was just how Berri did not know her very well. "Well they matter to me so to say... If I get angry or excited, the way I think narrows to the point I might not be able to, then my body reacts. Realizing my place, remaining humble, and remaining strong right there, keeps that from happening. It is a balance, a contradictory and confusing balance."
But then Bana still held his tone, however he was just confirming her. "Well yeah basically it is just that. Just how it feels... Just how it is.
What she could not say was how she really had a cowardly side to her. Running away from her problems made her worry about what she'd see and what she'd face when she got back there. She would be facing her past and that was probably harder than facing the future.
Maybe she could not do the latter without finishing the former and finally putting it all to rest.

Berri raised her brows as Rhona continued to clarify her thoughts, only to turn them muddier. She was fairly certain she followed the train of thought to its conclusion, but was starting to change her mind again.
"Well." She smoothed out imaginary wrinkles in her shirt, adjusting the cuff of her sleeve as she spoke. "You know what is backward from where you are. Humble or not, I would not suggest merely 'knowing' your place if that place is to constantly run in circles." Nothing could be accomplished that way. If nothing else, her life would move on without her while she tried to fill the minutes and figure out where she was going. Wanted to go. It seemed Rhona didn't even know the difference, or couldn't settle on one.
"But I'm sure you'll figure it out." She hoped, anyway. If Rhona's ambitions had brought her this far, then that had to be something. Even if that something was just that this was a fluke or one in a million case.
"I should go, though. I still have work to do."
